Farm mapping and data collection

Data collection, surveying and creating maps and models can be a complicated process. This new course will provide a framework and example data to assist you to streamline this.

The course is delivered using a combination of online, workbook and practical training to help you to explore the opportunities that vegetation and landscape mapping provide in your agricultural operations. You will also learn to use crop and mobile sensors to collect farm data that can help you make informed decisions in relation to land use, development plans, fertiliser plans, sowing plans, or monitoring crops, stock and water systems.

Using established systems to create maps and models of your farm will provide transferable data that links with existing farm systems such as yield maps, soil maps and farm development project plans. Accessing real-time maps with high accuracy allow operations to better consider management and planning decisions than historic maps or lower resolution satellite maps. Data input such as soil types, and yield history and by exploring this through the structured course, you will further develop the skills required to effectively and efficiently capture and use data within your production system within the growing period.
